*This was published the day after the gmail announcement although it was on our WA blog
Google made the announcement, or shall I say, the formal announcement of plans to redesign Gmail, the companies email service, early this week.
Even though the announcement itself wasn’t much of a surprise, the timing certainly was (but that’s neither here nor there)….yes, finally Gmail is bring “redesigned”. In my opinion, which I am basing soly of the Google press realease, this is more of an update, all be it a large update but not a “redesign”.
So what is changing? Good question, but anyone following Google for any amount of time knows, it’s par for the course.
Gmail: Here is what we do know:
A New Look on the Web (“fresh new look on the web”)
Offline Support (lol….right!!!)
Email Snooze Feature
Smart Reply on the Web, Similar to Mobile
Easy access to Apps like GCalendar from within Gmail (don’t we already have that???}
Timing: When to Expect “new” Gmail
Again, as with everything Google, we don’t know exact dates for Gmail’s facelift BUT, with a bit of digging around (ok so I did no digging, lol….I made a call to my friend who may or may not work for, around or near Google) and here is what I found:
Offline Support will arrive in June 2018 (for every Gmail user)
Gmail EAP or Early Adoptor Program members are able to test now (a beta version)
Similar to Calander last year, it will fully role out as an opt-in beta next month
You can expect the full roll out before Google’s I/O is over next month
Summary: The New Gmail
Bottom line, the Google / Gmail updates or “redesign” will be available for all Gmail users by early summer 2018 and to those in an EAP, beta access is available now. See the attached photo (credit for photo below) to get an idea of the new look.
This is NOT much and in my opinion, based on some somewhat insider info, it’s more hype for and orchestrated by PR.
